Highlights

Conditions

The best wind directions are Northwest and North.
Southwest and West are also good.
NOT good when the wind has any East component in it (trees block the wind).

Launch

You have to park your car about 100 yards away from the rigging area. People drop off their stuff, then put the car where it belongs.

Amenities

No restrooms, just trees

Directions

Directions from the North
  • I 77 South to the Arlington Road exit.
  • At end of exit ramp, turn right onto Arlington Road South.
  • After about three miles, turn right at a traffic light onto East Caston.
  • After about 1 mile, make a sharp left turn onto Christman. There is a bar/restaurant called the Falcon Lounge on the corner.
  • Nimisila Reservior will be on the right. Follow Christman about 2-3 miles to the far end of the lake. Pass the first boat launching area and the State Park and campground. The windsurfing spot is at the second boat launching ramp area, which is marked by a small sign on the right. There is a yellow warning sign for Killinger Road just before the right turn (at the launching ramps) sign to turn into the launch site.
  • If you see Killinger Road on the left, you have gone about 100 yards too far - turn around and look for the launching ramp sign.
  • At the launching area, rig up on the grass at the end of the parking lot and park further up the drive in the marked spots.
Directions from the South
  • I77 North to the Portage Ave exit.
  • Turn left (West) onto Portage. Go about 5 or 6 miles on Portage
  • Turn right onto Lutz (look for sign for Rolling Acres Golf Course on the right). Follow Lutz about 2 miles until it ends.
  • Turn right onto Mt. Pleasant, then immediately turn left onto Christman. (This is just a quick zig-zag)
  • Go about 1 mile on Christman. When you see the lake on the left, start looking for Killinger Road on the right. Just past Killinger, turn left at a sign marked "launching ramps".
  • See the end of the directions from the North for the rest.
